Temperate Forest

Temperate forests have a lot of rain. Moist air keeps things wet. Some trees can live 500 years. Tempertures change from 80F in summer to freezing cold in winter. Most temperate forests are located in the eastern United States, Canada, Europe, China, Japan, and parts of Russia. The average temperature in temperate forests is 24°C but it can get to 30°C depending on the altitude. Higher forests are colder.Humans have often stayed areas int the Temperate Forests. They have also harvested wood for to use timber.Temperate Forest have also been used for farming.

Animals that live in temperature forests are : chipmunks , black bears , eurasion lynx , woodpeckers , deers , butterflies , giant pandas , monkeys, gorillas and wolves. The Eurasion lynx , chipmunks and pandas are endangered animals.There are only 1000 pandas in the wild and there are 100 pandas in zoos.

There are small plants such as shrubs, moss, ferns, and lichens which grow near base of trees in temperate forests. The trees found in a temperate forest are called hardwoods. This means the trees loose their leaves in the winter.There are trees like : birch , beech , oak , hickory and sweet gum. Oak trees are endangered species because they are usefull for making buildings , wine barrels and drums.
